FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.

We noticed that the image has the logo of “Zee Uttar Pradesh” in the top right corner. Taking a cue from this, we did a keyword search and found a news report published by Zee News on October 29, 2020, that reported the same development. The article read, “Mayawati targeted the Samajwadi Party saying that they have broken 7 MLAs under the conspiracy, got their false affidavits. She has also said that this action cost SP dear. Now she can also support the BJP to teach a lesson to the Samajwadi Party. Mayawati has also said that she would not back down even if she had to vote for BJP to teach a lesson to SP. In the election of MLC, the BSP will try its best to give a tit-for-tat answer.”

Searching further, we found a Facebook live uploaded on the official page of Zee Uttar Pradesh on October 29, 2020. We came to know that the screenshot which is going viral now is actually an old screenshot of Zee Uttar Pradesh Uttarakhand channel. At 14 minutes time span, one can see the same content, which is now going viral.

We also came across a tweet by ANI dated October 29, 2020, that stated: BSP chief Mayawati says that her party will vote for BJP or any party’s candidate in future UP MLC elections, to defeat Samajwadi Party’s second candidate.” Any party candidate, who’ll be dominant over SP’s 2nd candidate, will get all BSP MLAs’ vote for sure,” she said.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old statement made by BSP chief Mayawati is being falsely shared as recent. Therefore, the viral claim is misleading.
