Fact Check: 2020 Video Of Akhilesh Yadav Reprimanding A Doctor Viral With False Caste-Based Twist

Date:

A video showing former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav reprimanding a doctor is doing rounds on social media. It is being claimed that Akhilesh misbehaved with the doctor after finding out that he is a member of an upper-caste community.

The video was shared with the caption, “कन्नौज में वरिष्ठ चिकित्सक डॉ डी एस मिश्रा के साथ अखिलेश जी का ये बर्ताव उनकी मानसिकता को प्रदर्शित करता है , नाम पूंछने के बाद और ब्राह्मण होने के कारण अखिलेश जी ने जिस प्रकार से एक चिकित्सक को दुत्कारा है क्या ऐसी मानसिकता राजनैतिक दल के नेता की होनी चाहिए, क्या सपा मुखिया के लिए ब्राह्मण होना पाप है ??? ”

(English Translation: This behaviour of Akhilesh Ji with Dr DS Mishra, a senior doctor in Kannauj, shows his mentality. After asking the name and finding out that he is a brahmin, the way Akhilesh ji scolded a doctor, should a person of such mentality, be a leader of a political party? Is being a Brahmin a sin for the SP chief?)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the post to be misleading.

We ran a keyword search and found the same video in a report by TOI dated January 14, 2020. The video was titled: SP President Akhilesh Yadav drives Kannauj doctor away from ward, says ‘tum bhaag jaao’.

The description of the video read, “Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav drove a medical officer out of a hospital ward, saying ‘tum bahar bhaag jao’. He also said that the officer could not take the side of the government and was only a small officer. Akhilesh Yadav had reached the hospital to meet those injured in the Kannauj bus accident. A bus carrying over 40 passengers had collided with a truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj and caught fire on January 10.”

The same video was also uploaded by ANI on January 14, 2020, with the caption, “#WATCH Former CM Akhilesh Yadav who went to meet injured of Kannauj accident, at a hospital in Chhibramau asks Emergency Medical Officer to leave the room as he speaks about compensation amount been given to the injured, says, “Tum sarkar ka paksh nahi le sakte…bahar bhaag jao“.

In the same Twitter thread, ANI also posted a statement by the doctor visible in the video. “DS Mishra, Emergency Medical Officer, Chhibramau: I was present there as I was treating patients. One of the patients said he didn’t get the compensation cheque, I tried to clarify that the cheque was given. At this, former CM Akhilesh Ji got angry&asked me to leave the room. (13Jan),” the tweet read.

Thus from the above information, it is clear that a two-year-old video is being shared with a false casteist twist.
