A video in which a man can be seen confronting a girl for scamming a shopkeeper through online payment mode and refusing to pay for her purchases is being widely shared on social media. Sharing this video, users are requesting people to be cautious of such online scams.
The video is being shared on Facebook with a caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated in English to: “See how in the name of online apps like Paytm and Google Pay in shops, thugs use fraudulent payment messages by showing them …. Watch the video till the end.”
(Original Text:

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found that the video is scripted.
Using the InVid Tool, we extracted keyframes from the viral video and performed a Reverse Image Search. This search directed us to a YouTube channel that carried the longer version of the same viral video posted on January 5, 2022.
Towards the end of the video, a man appears on the screen and says in Hindi that the video was made for awareness and educational purposes only. He further cautions people to be aware of such online payment scams. The man was identified in the video as one Nishant Soni.
Taking a cue from this, we did a keyword search and found the same video uploaded on the Facebook page of ‘Nishant Soni’ on January 4, 2022. Searching further, we found the same video uploaded on the verified Instagram page of ‘NS ki Duniya’. The disclaimer of the video read “Awareness Video”.
