A video post claiming that US Vice President Kamala Harris has said that all those who are hospitalized due to COVID-19 are vaccinated has gone viral on social media.
The video is being shared with a Hindi caption: “इसमे अमेरिका के उपराष्ट्रपति ये कह रही है कि हाल में अमेरिका में जितने भी लोग कोविड से बीमार हुए है और अस्पताल में भर्ती हुए है ! उन सब को 2 या 3 वैक्सीन लग चुकी थी ! और जितने भी लोग मरे है:- उनका भी पूर्ण टीका करण हो चुका था ! ये वीडियो उन लोगो के लिए है:- जो ये सोच रहे हो कि टीका एक सुरक्षा कवच है !”
(English Translation: In this, the US Vice President is saying that all the people in America have recently been sick with Covid and hospitalized! They all had 2 or 3 vaccines! We ran a keyword search along with a Reverse Image search on the keyframes of the video and found the original video on the YouTube channel of White House.
The original 23 minutes long video, was uploaded on July 13, 2021, with the title, “Vice President Harris Delivers Remarks at a Vaccine Mobilization Event.”
In the video, at 17 minutes 11 seconds, one can see the viral clip. However, in the original video, she can be heard saying, ” And here’s how I know: Virtually every person who is in the hospital sick with COVID-19 right now is unvaccinated.”
We also found the transcript of the original speech on the website of the White House. The full statement read, “And, folks, this Delta variant is no joke. Detroit, this — this Delta variant, it spreads faster, and it is in many cases reported to be much more serious in terms of its impact. And the vaccine will protect you from it. And here’s how I know: Virtually every person who is in the hospital sick with COVID-19 right now is unvaccinated. I’m going to repeat that. Virtually — it’s a fact — paying attention — (laughter and applause). Virtually every person who is in the hospital right now sick with COVID-19 is unvaccinated.”
Thus, it is clear that in the viral video, ‘unvaccinated’ was replaced with ‘vaccinated’ and the fake edited video is being circulated to dissuade people from getting vaccinated.
