On January 2, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav unveiled a statue of Lord Parashuram in Lucknow’s Gosaiganj neighbourhood. Several images from the event went viral on social media. Through one of the photographs, it is being claimed that Akhilesh offered prayers to Lord Parashuram while wearing shoes.
The image is being shared on Facebook with a caption in Hindi that can be roughly translated in English to: “Look at the picture… Went to show off but forgot that shoes also have to be taken off. Is Akhilesh Yadav not so intelligent? This Parshuram is an insult to God and the Brahmins of Uttar Pradesh will definitely do the Shradh of his party.”

We searched the web with relevant keywords and found that the full video of the unveiling of the idol of Lord Parashuram was uploaded by the Samajwadi Party on its YouTube channel on January 2, 2022. It is seen in the video that Akhilesh gets down from his Samajwadi Vijay Yatra vehicle and proceeds towards the temple with his supporters. At 6 minutes 42 seconds, it seems that Akhilesh is taking off his shoes outside the temple. However, Akhilesh’s feet are not visible at this place and only the upper part of the body can be seen.
After this, we found a Facebook post of the Samajwadi Party on January 2 on this programme. In this post, Akhilesh Yadav can be seen without shoes in the photo just outside the temple.
It is clearly visible in the photo that Akhilesh is wearing black socks.
