Travel Restrictions On Omicron: All You Need To Know

India is seeing a surge in COVID-19 cases due to both the Delta variant and the Omicron variant. The newly reported Omicron variant is, reportedly more contagious compared to other strains, has triggered a global scare with several countries announcing fresh curbs. Many Indian states have also announced revised guidelines for domestic travellers.

State-wise Travel Requirements:

Passengers visiting all states of India will go through a mandatory thermal screening and needs the Aarogya Setu app installed on their phone.

Some states like Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Bihar, Odisha, Goa, Gujarat and Telangana, have not yet imposed quarantine for passengers coming to these states, but many other states have asked for mandatory quarantine and other travel restrictions. Here are some important guidelines to know before visiting these states:

Delhi:

Passengers who are found positive will be quarantined at home or CCC/CHC/Hospital for 10 days.

Constitutional and Govt. functionaries, as well as their staff members, are exempted from 7 days of home quarantine.

Haryana

– COVID-19 test is not required.
– Thermal screening will be done for all passengers upon arrival.
– No quarantine required.
– Passengers must download the Aarogya Setu app.

Maharashtra

– Thermal screening shall be done for all passengers.
– It is mandatory for passengers arriving in Maharashtra to carry a COVID-19 negative report from an ICMR approved lab not earlier than 72 hours of arrival or be in possession of a vaccination certificate (two doses).
– When arriving from a domestic city/state: No quarantine or hand stamping
for asymptomatic passengers

Uttar Pradesh:

When arriving from a domestic city/state: 14 days of home quarantine. Exception: Passengers exiting Uttar Pradesh within 7 days of arrival shall be exempted from mandatory quarantine subject to validation of return/onward travel.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands:

Mandatory 7-day home quarantine for all passengers even if the test of the
result conducted on arrival is negative.

If any passenger tests positive will be sent for institutional quarantine for further treatment.

Goa

– Mandatory for all passengers arriving in Goa from any state to be in possession of a RT-PCR/TrueNAT/CBNAAT/Rapid Antigen Test negative report from any ICMR accredited lab done within the last 72 hours.

– Passengers who are fully vaccinated (two doses) and have completed 15 days
since the receipt of the 2nd dose shall be exempted from pre-departure RTPCR/TrueNAT/CBNAAT/RAT requirement.

Chandigarh

– Thermal screening will be done for all passengers.
– Mandatory for passengers to carry an RT-PCR report not earlier than 72 hours before scheduled time of landing or who are fully vaccinated (two doses) RT-PCR timeline starts from the swab collection time
– No quarantine required.
– Passengers are required to fill a health declaration form upon arrival.
– All passengers must download the Aarogya Setu app
– All passengers must register on COVA Punjab App before commencing their journey.

Assam:

Mandatory 7-day home quarantine for all passengers even if the test of the
result conducted on arrival is negative.

Exemption from quarantine:
• Residents of Northeastern states other than Assam who are arriving in any
the airport in Assam from outside the state and are directly travelling onwards to
any other Northeastern states shall be exempted from on arrival testing
provided they are able to produce proof of address at the Northeastern states
and are asymptomatic.
• All transit passengers of Intra Assam and Inter Northeastern states shall be
exempted from on arrival testing provided they are able to produce proof of
address in the Northeastern states and are asymptomatic.
• Government officials and those travelling due to medical reasons and family
bereavement shall be exempted from mandatory quarantine.

Chhattisgarh:

Passengers undergoing test upon arrival shall be required to remain in home
quarantine till the test result is declared.

Jharkhand:

  • Mandatory 7-day home quarantine for all passengers arriving in the state of
    Jharkhand.
  •  Following passenger categories are exempted from the mandatory 7-day
    home quarantine period:
  • Passengers who have a return journey within 72 hours from the arrival
    into the state of Jharkhand.
  • Passengers passing through the state during interstate movement.
  • Government of India officials on official duty.
  • Passengers who undertake daily interstate travel for purpose of
    mining/industrial/agriculture/health care related activities.

West Bengal:

• 14 days of self-monitoring for all asymptomatic passengers.
• For symptomatic passengers, the health authorities will decide the
quarantine requirement on a case basis.

Madhya Pradesh:

Self-isolation for passengers arriving from Maharashtra without negative RTPCR report till the report results are received. Upon giving the sample for testing, passengers are expected to contact the COVID team at the airport & download the Indore-311 app for monitoring of self-isolation status.

Karnataka: Mandatory 7-day institutional quarantine for all students arriving from Kerala state in pursuance of their studies in any discipline but not restricted to
nursing, medical, engineering, paramedical, etc

Tamil Nadu:

When arriving from a domestic city/state:
• 7 days of home quarantine & 7 days of self-monitoring for all passengers arriving in
Tamil Nadu from Maharashtra & Kerala.
• 14 days of self-monitoring for all passengers arriving in Tamil Nadu from other
states/UT.
• Symptomatic passengers will be required to go for institutional quarantine till the
time COVID-19 test results are available, at the discretion of health officials, after
which they will be required to complete the remaining period of 14 days of home
quarantine.
• Business travellers visiting Tamil Nadu for a short stay of 72 hours are exempt from
home quarantine norms. In such cases, the individual shall furnish a valid return
document.
