A message attributed to Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport & Highways, is going viral on social media. The message claims that whenever you pay toll at a toll plaza, pay for 12 hours. If you come back within 12 hours, you will not have to pay toll tax.
(English Translation: If you take a ticket at the toll plaza, he asks one side or both sides, so friends, let me tell you to tell him to issue for 12 hours, not single or double side. If you come back within 12 hours no toll charges will be applicable. Even the Toll tickets have Time printed on it. Due to lack of information, Toll Plaza people are looting us and earning Lakhs of rupees illegally. I request you all to send this message to all and make them aware. Thanks. Petitioner: Nitin Gadkari, Government of India)

We found a tweet by the official Twitter handle of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, dated December 28, 2018, where they had refuted the viral claim.
“It has come to MoRTH’s attention that there are statements falsely attributed to the Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari regarding the Toll Rates. MoRTH wishes to clarify the same,” they tweeted, along with a press release.
The press release mentioned that the ‘toll rates are governed by the notified rules as stated in the Gazette of India Notification of MORTH dated 5th December 2008’.
Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that the viral message in circulation is fake.
