1.2022 Beijing Winter Olympics
Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics will take place in three competition zones, Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou, between February 4 and 20, followed by the Winter Paralympics from March 4 to 13.
However, the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics has now been surrounded by controversies as countries including the US, Australia, and Britain have called for a diplomatic boycott of the winter Olympics in Beijing because of widespread allegations of human rights violence against the Chinese government.
2. ICC men’s T20 World Cup 2022
Cricket enthusiasts from India and across the world are eagerly waiting for this event.
It is scheduled to take place between 16 October and 13 November next year. The event will see a total of 45 matches hosted across Adelaide, Brisbane, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney.
India was the first team to win the 50-over World Cup while hosting it in 2011. They will be looking forward to maintaining the streak.
3. UP Election 2022
When it comes to elections in India, only a few states are as important as Uttar Pradesh. UP’s importance lies in the electoral strength of the state that has 403 legislators and 80 parliamentarians.
The elections are scheduled to be held in early 2022 as the term of the current assembly will expire on May 14, 2022.
A party or coalition needs 202 seats for a majority in the 403-member UP assembly.
4. 2022 FIFA World Cup
Football is one the most loved and followed sports across the globe and in less than a year, the world’s best footballing nations will be competing, with one dream of lifting the FIFA World Cup.
The 2022 World Cup is taking place in Qatar in the winter months rather than the usual summer ones. It will be the last World Cup which will be played between 32 countries as the 2026 World Cup will expand across North America and host 48-teams.
5. World Sustainable Development Summit
The recent years have shown some of the worst disasters driven by climate change and highlighted the need for wise stewardship of natural resources across all levels.
The Twenty-First Edition of TERI’s annual flagship event, the World Sustainable Development Summit 2022 will be held under the umbrella theme of ‘Towards a Resilient Planet: Ensuring a Sustainable and Equitable Future’ from February 16-18 2022.
The summit aims to bring together Nobel laureates, political leaders, decision-makers from bilateral and multilateral institutions, business leaders, high-level functionaries from the diplomatic corps, scientists and researchers, media personnel, and members of civil society; on a common platform to deliberate on issues related to sustainable development.
