Fact Check: Does This Image Show Shaheen Bagh’s Bilkis Bano Enroute Ayodhya? Here’s The Truth

An image in which Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal can be seen greeting an elderly woman in a train compartment is being widely shared on social media. It is being claimed that the lady in the photograph is Bilkis Bano, the elderly lady who gained prominence during the anti-CAA protest in Shaheen Bagh.

The image is being shared on Facebook with the caption: “मिलिए दिल्ली के ठग की राष्ट्रीय भौजाई से। नहीं पहचाना नहीं? यह भौजाई शाहीन बाग में बिरियानी खा रही थी। किसान आन्दोलन में बादाम का हलवा खा रही थी और अब रामनामी ओढ़े अयोध्या की यात्रा भी कर रही है”

(English Translation: Meet the national brother of thugs of Delhi. Didn’t Recognize? This lady was eating biriyani in Shaheen Bagh. Was eating almond pudding in farmer’s protest and now is also travelling to Ayodhya.)

Here’s the link to the above post.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FALSE.

A simple Reverse Image Search directed us to a Facebook post uploaded by Arvind Kejriwal on December 3, 2021, that carried the same viral image. The caption of the image can be translated in English to, “A few days ago, when I had visited Shri Ramlala in Ayodhya, a thought came to my mind that I should bring all my elders of Delhi for a darshan of Lord Shri Ram. The first train of pilgrimage was flagged off from Delhi to Ayodhya today. These were very emotional moments for me, may everyone’s journey be blessed. Long live Rama.”

Taking a cue from this, we searched further and found several news reports that stated, “Under the ‘Mukhya Mantri Teerath Yatra Yojna’, the Delhi government bears complete expenditure on the free pilgrimage of senior citizens to places like Jagganath Puri, Rameshwaram, Shirdi, Mathura, Haridwar, Tirupati among others.”

The same image was also tweeted by the official handle of Arvind Kejriwal on December 3, 2021, stating that these are the visuals of “The first train of pilgrimage flagged off from Delhi to Ayodhya.”

Below is the comparison between the viral image and the image uploaded by Arvind Kejriwal in his Facebook post.

Further, we compared Bilkis Bano’s photograph with that of the woman seen in the viral image. It is evident from this comparison that they are different.

Further, we did a keyword search but could not find any news report corroborating the viral claim.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an unrelated image is being falsely shared as that of Bilkis Bano enroute Ayodhya.
