An image has surfaced on social media platforms showing a woman in a black dress with a sarcastic caption suggesting that the woman in the picture is the granddaughter of Bollywood lyricist and screenwriter Javed Akhtar.
A Facebook user shared the image with a caption in Hindi that roughly translates to, “Masks and Burqas are only for weak women. If any Maulana or Maulvi has the guts, then make Javed Akhtar’s granddaughter alias Urfi Javed wear a mask. However, after looking closely once, I came to know that it is a burqa only, it is a bit torn.”

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral claim and found that the woman seen in the viral image is a former Big Boss contestant who goes by the name ‘Urfi Javed’ and that she is not related to Javed Akhtar in any way.
With the help of Reverse Image Search, we found a video showing the same visuals uploaded on the verified YouTube channel of Bollywood Bai in November this year. As per the caption of the video, the woman is Urfi Javed.
We then checked the verified Instagram page of Urfi Javed, who rose to fame with her stint in Bigg Boss OTT, and found her pictures in the same outfit shared on November 15, 2021.
On checking further, we found a report by Hindustan Times wherein Urfi herself said that Javed Akhtar was ‘never associated’ with her in any way. Before her clarification, Javed Akhtar’s wife Shabana Azmi dismissed the speculations doing the rounds online.
Urfi has acted in several TV shows. She is known for portraying the role of Avni in Bade Bhaiyya Ki Dulhania. She was also seen as Aarti in Meri Durga, Bella in Bepannaah, and Mira in Puncch Beat Season 2 which streamed on ALT Balaji.
Therefore, it is evident that pictures of Urfi Javed are being falsely shared claiming that she is the granddaughter of Javed Akhtar.
