NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be false.

On doing a Google Reverse Image Search, we found the same image was uploaded by a Reddit user three months ago with a description that reads, “Flood in sukhumvit pattaya Thailand.”

We found the same image was also uploaded on 9Gag on September 8, 2021, with the title that read, “Just a croc taking a swim in the Thailand’s flooded neighborhood.”

A Tamil website Puthiyathalaimurai.com also quoted Chengalpattu-Vallanchery District Collector who denied the viral claim of crocodile floating on the streets during the recent flood.

While we were not able to confirm the origin of the viral image, we could ascertain that it is old and is not related to the recent Chennai floods.

Thus, it is evident that the claim is false.
