New Delhi: The stalemate continued between the Centre and the Opposition on Wednesday on the third day of the Winter Session of Parliament in the wake of the suspension of 12 Rajya Sabha members. The suspended MPs observed sit-in protest near the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the Parliament House complex throughout the day as the Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu refused to revoke the suspension of opposition MPs.

The proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned repeatedly as opposition members continued with their protests over the suspension of the MPs. The House was first adjourned soon after it met for the day in the morning and later twice again. The MPs demanded that Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge be allowed to speak on the suspension while the Jal Shakti Minister moved the Dam Safety Bill for consideration. Amid the din, the House was adjourned for the day.

In the Lok Sabha, proceedings were adjourned till noon amid protests by members of the TRS over farmers’ issues. The House witnessed sloganeering as members also displayed placards over farmer issues in the Well of the House during the Question Hour. Speaker Om Birla’s interventions and appeals also did not bring order to the House.

During the Zero Hour, BJP member Nishikant Dubey urged the Centre to bring a law soon to implement a Uniform Civil Code in the country.

Later, the Lok Sabha took up the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Bill, 2020 which was passed in the evening after discussion. The House also took up matters of urgent public importance which were raised by several MPs.
