In the run up to the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, a video of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav arguing on stage is being shared on social media. The post claims that he misbehaved with his father on stage.
The video is being shared with the Hindi text, ” ये विडियोज़ मिडिया नहीं दिखा पाई अखिलेश यादव का असली रूप । जो अपने खुद के बाप के साथ पब्लिक में ऐसा व्यवहार कर रहा हो वो सत्ता मिलते ही आम जनता के साथ कैसा ब्यवहार करेगा।”
(English Translation: These videos media could not show the real form of Akhilesh Yadav. The one who is behaving like this in public with his own father, how will he behave with the general public as soon as he gets power.)
Here’s the link to the above post.
NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be misleading.
We ran a keyword search and found that the same video clip was present in a report by DD News dated October 25, 2016.
The description of the video read, “The feud in UP’s ruling Samajwadi Party came out into the open with a high-voltage drama unfolding in full public view during which party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav sided with his younger brother Shivpal and friend Amar Singh, and reprimanded son Akhilesh Yadav but ruled out his removal as Chief Minister.”
Taking a cue from this, we found multiple video reports from 2018 covering the same incident. According to these reports, at a meeting of the Samajwadi Party, Shivpal Yadav snatched Akhilesh Yadav’s microphone and called him a liar. As the argument got heated, party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav stepped in to handle the situation. See the video report by NDTV, ABP News, and News Nation.
Times Now shared the same video on Twitter with the caption, “VIDEO: UP CM Akhilesh Yadav & Shivpal Yadav openly spar at a party meeting, Mulayam intervenes #YadavsAtWar.”
The entire timeline of the drama can be read in a 2016 report by LiveMint.
Based on the above information, we can conclude that an old video from 2016 is being falsely shared as recent.
