Munawar’s show in Bengaluru was canceled on Sunday after the city police wrote a letter to the venue organizers urging them to cancel the event, citing ‘law and order issues, and termed him a ‘controversial figure’.
In an official note to Curtain Call events, an inspector from the Ashok Nagar Police Station wrote, “It is learned that Munawar Faruqui is a controversial figure for his controversial statements on other religions and Gods. Many states have banned his comedy shows. It is learned that a case has also been registered against him under Tukoganj police station in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore.”
The note added “there is credible information that several organizations are opposing this stand-up comedy show performed by Faruqui. This could create chaos and could disturb public peace and harmony which may further lead to law and order problems. Therefore it is suggested that you should cancel Faruqui’s comedy show.”

Since his arrest in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore city, certain groups have constantly targeted him and canceled his events 12 times in 2 months, including events in Raipur, Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Goa, and Mumbai.
Munawar, meanwhile stated that the event was canceled due to threats of vandalism received by the venue’s organizers. According to Munawar, such threats resulted in the cancellation of 12 events over the course of two months.
“Putting me in jail for the joke I never did to canceling my shows, which has nothing problematic in it… this is unfair,” he added in the note.
