As Tamil Nadu faces a flood-like situation due to the heavy rains, a video of a waterlogged street is being shared on social media with a claim that it is a flooded market in Chennai.
“Floating market of #Chennai India. #ChennaiRains #chennaifloods #ChennaiRains2021 #ChennaiRain,” the Facebook post reads.
Here’s the link to the above post.
FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.
We extracted keyframes of the video using the InVID tool and ran them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to a tweet by Delhi BJP President Adesh Gupta.
Gupta shared the same video on Twitter on September 1, 2021, with the caption, “केजरीवाल के राज में डूबती दिल्ली!” (English Translation: Delhi sinking under Kejriwal’s rule)
We also found the same video on YouTube with the title, “Water flood at Delhi sadar bazar market | Amaze Ind #shorts”
We found several other videos from of the same location, taken from a different angle. The links can be seen here and here.
According to a report by TOI, on September 1, 2021, Delhi witnessed the highest single-day rainfall in September in 19 years, flooding major colonies, homes and shops in the city.
News 18 and Jantantra TV also published similar video reports on September 1, 2021.
Hence, it is clear that an old video of flooding in Delhi is being falsely linked to Chennai rains.
