The total number of Zika virus cases in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur has climbed to 79, informed health officials on Saturday, ANI reported.
“Kanpur has reported 79 cases of Zika virus. 100 teams are monitoring, who are doing a door-to-door listing of pregnant women. 100 teams are spraying. 50 teams are working to collect samples,” said Nepal Singh, Chief Medical Officer, Kanpur.

“70 teams also visited around 3,300 houses on Friday for surveillance regarding the virus. Further, 71 teams are visiting houses for source detection and fumigation,” he said on Friday.
The first case of the Zika virus in Kanpur was reported on October 25. Later, the Central government sent a multi-disciplinary team to Kanpur.
What is Zika virus?
Zika is a viral infection, spread by mosquitoes. Caused by a virus transmitted primarily by the Aedes mosquito, which bites during the day, symptoms of this disease are mild fever, rashes, conjunctivitis, muscle and joint pain, malaise or a headache. First identified in Uganda in 1947 in monkeys, Zika was detected in humans five years later.
