A video in which a person can be seen removing garbage from an underground container has gone viral on social media with a claim that it shows an innovative experiment of Belgaum Municipal Corporation. Belgaum (also known as Belagavi) is a city in the southwest Indian state of Karnataka.
The video is being shared on Facebook with a caption in Nepali that can be roughly translated in English to: “Belgaum Municipal Corporation Innovative Experiment Underground garbage container.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.
We extracted keyframes from the video using the InVid Tool and performed a Reverse Image Search. This search directed us to a YouTube video uploaded on August 27, 2013, that carried the same viral video. The description of the video read, “Garbage Truck with underground container system Crane. Crane capacity 7m 1 ton. HidroMak is the manufacturer of garbage compactor from Turkey.”
We looked closely at the video and noticed that the number plate of the truck started with “34”, and these number plates are from Istanbul, Turkey. We also noticed “Üsküdar Belediyesi” written on the truck. We searched and found that it is a municipality in Istanbul, Turkey.
Searching further, we found news articles published on February 17, 2021, that stated Belagavi city corporation has proposed a tender for the installation of a refuse compactor with crane for an underground container. But we could not find any news article stating that such a system has been installed in Belagavi.
Thus, it is evident from the above information that an old video from Turkey is being falsely shared as underground dustbins installed in Belgaum.
