T20 WC: Take A Look At Iconic Clashes Between India & Pakistan Before Their Face Off On Oct 24

Arch-rivals India and Pakistan have once again been drawn in the same group for the 2021 International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup in the UAE. India will open its T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan on October 24 in Dubai.

Pakistan have never beaten India in an ICC World T20 or 50 over World Cup till date. However, the men in green have a better head-to-head record over India in Tests and ODIs.

Due to the political tensions and multiple wars between the two nations, over the years, cricket suffered as both sides were ordered to abandon any cricketing ties with each other. This time too there are calls from several quarters to boycott the WC match at Dubai because of the skirmishes in Jammu and Kashmir between terrorists and security forces but they will not have much impact on the schedule.

The last meeting between them was in the ICC 50 over World Cup two years ago in 2019, and India won the match in convincing fashion with Rohit Sharma hitting a century.

1. Group Match, 2007 T20 WC – India beat Pakistan via bowl-out

The high voltage match at Durban ended in a tie as Pakistan failed to overhaul India’s total of 141. The tie-breaker in the inaugural tournament was a ‘bowl-out’ instead of the ‘Super Over’. India won the match.

2. India vs Pakistan: 2007 T20 World Cup final, Johannesburg

India and Pakistan created history when they became the first two teams to reach the final of the inaugural edition of the ICC T20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007. In the final match, India went up against Pakistan and won the match by 5 runs.

3. India vs Pakistan: 2011 ODI World Cup Semi-final, Mohali

The semi-finals of the 2011 ODI World Cup took place at IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali on March 30. The men in blue put up a competitive total of 260/9. Eventually, India defeated Pakistan by 29 runs to progress to the finals. In the same year, India lifted their 2nd ODI World Cup.

4. India vs Pakistan: 2012 T20 World Cup Super 8, Colombo

In 2012, India yet again won with eight wickets and 18 balls to spare. Batting first Pakistan scored only 138 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. It was in this match that Virat Kohli bowled three overs and also picked up the wicket of Mohammed Hafeez.

5. India vs Pakistan: 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final

In this final, India went up against Pakistan but this time, men-in-green were more powerful as India lost the match. Pakistan put up a target of 339. Chasing the total, half the side of India was back in the dressing room at 72, India was barreling towards an embarrassing defeat.
