Days ahead of Diwali, the Union Cabinet on Thursday approved a 3 per cent hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for central government employees and pensioners.
This takes the dearness allowance to 31%. The decision will be effective from July 1, 2021. The DA and DR hike announcement will benefit around 47.14 lakh Central government employees and 68.62 lakh pensioners respectively.
In a press briefing after the Cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur informed that the total cost incurred by the central government will be Rs 9,488.74 crore annually.
