FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact-check and found the claim to be misleading.

A Google Reverse Image Search, led us to similar images posted by a Twitter user on November 6, 2020, with a caption that read, “The heavy rains experienced in the Uva Province had given the beautiful Ravana Falls a new colour mixed with muddy water.”

We also found the images were uploaded by DailyMirror.LK on November 6, 2020. The description associated with the images read, “The heavy rains experienced in the Uva Province had given the beautiful Ravana Falls a new colour mixed with muddy water.”

Moreover, we ran a search but did not find any media report to ascertain that Ravana Ella falls was flooded or heavy rainfall was experienced in Uva Province recently.

Thus, based on the above fact check, we can conclude that old images are being passed off as recent in viral social media posts.
