New Delhi: India on Thursday described the three-day visit of U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman as “useful and productive.”
“We had an intensive, useful, and productive visit of US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman. We have now a lot more engagement on the various sectorial niches of the different pillars and sectors that encompass our engagement,” said Arindam Bagchi, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson at his weekly media briefing while answering a query.
He said the issue of the S-400 air defense deal which India has inked with Russia was also raised during talks of Deputy Secretary Sherman with Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla. “We have explained our perspective, Discussions are underway,” he said.
The spokesperson said that Russia is India’s privileged strategic partner and discussions were also held on Iran and the situation in Afghanistan.
US Deputy Secretary is slated to hold discussions with the business community in Mumbai on Thursday before flying out to Pakistan for talks.
