There were some light moments at the first in-person meeting between President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House on Friday as President Biden recalled his visit to Mumbai as the then US Vice President.
During a nearly 40-minute meeting of the two leaders, President Biden remarked that during his Mumbai visit the Indian press asked him if he had any relative in India. “Someone from the Indian Press said you have five Bidens in India”, he quipped narrating the incident as PM Modi smiled.
Though PM Modi spoke in Hindi, the banter and chemistry between the two leaders were evident as President Biden was recalling the Mumbai incident in a lighter vein.
He was warmly welcomed by President Biden with open arms and a warm handshake with PM Modi expressing happiness at the opportunity to meet him once again and the two leaders, though masked all the time, had a hearty laugh when President Biden pointed towards chairs meant for them at the Oval Office.
President Biden made a mention of Mahatma Gandhi’s Jayanti to which PM Modi said that Gandhiji spoke about trusteeship, a concept which is very important for our planet in the times to come.
