Fact Check: Video Of A Family Dispute In Rajasthan Shared With False Communal Angle

A disturbing video in which a group of people can be seen beating a man and a woman has gone viral on social media claiming that it shows people from the minority community beating members of the majority community as they have no fear of getting arrested under Ashok-Gehlot led Rajasthan government.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption in Hindi that translates to, “Mullahs have no fear because they have a Congress government in Rajasthan. Jai ho Gehlot, it’s been 5 days so far and not a single arrest because the killers are Muslims.”

(Original Text:

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be FALSE.

Starting with our investigation, we found a reply by the Rajasthan Police Help Desk dated September 20, 2021, to a tweet that carried the same viral video. The tweet urged Jodhpur Police to give an update of the current status and action taken on the matter.

Searching further, we found a tweet reply by DCP East Jodhpur on September 21, 2021. The text translates to, “In this regard, the investigation is going on by registering a case in the police station Mahamandir, 10 people have been arrested in 107,151 crpc to maintain peace on the spot.”

We then did a keyword search and found many news articles that reported the same incident. A news article published on September 20, 2021, stated that “The viral video is of Khatik Colony under Mahamandir Police Station in Jodhpur. During the night awakening in the colony, there was a dispute between the two parties. Due to this dispute, one side went with some youths the next day and attacked the other side with a sharp weapon.” This article does not mention any communal angle to the incident.

We found another news report regarding the same incident that stated, “Both the fighting parties belong to the Hindu community and both are relatives. Both the parties live in the same colony. In Jagran the night before the incident, the accused party did not invite the victim. Due to this, an argument started between both sides.” The article was published on September 21, 2021.

Replying to a similar video uploaded on Twitter, Jodhpur Police said, “This incident is not related to the incident like mob lynching, it was a mutual family dispute, an investigation is going on by registering a case in the police station Mahamandir, 10 people have been arrested in 107,151 crpc to keep peace on the spot.”

Thus, it is evident from the above information that a video of a family dispute is being falsely given a communal angle.
