NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the post to be misleading.

We ran a keyword search and found a report by Zee News from 2019 with the headline, “PM Narendra Modi wins British Herald reader’s poll for world’s most powerful person 2019.”

Searching further, we also found the same image in an article by the British Herald dated July 17, 2019 (way before COVID-19 came into view). “British Herald Features Indian Prime Minister On Cover,” the headline read.

British Herald also shared the cover of the magazine on their official Facebook page on May 23, 3019, with the caption, “Congratulations Narendra Modi for keeping the world’s largest democracy to think and act with unity for the sustainable development. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Amit Shah TIME Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Gujarat The Indian Elections.”

We also looked through the reports and social media posts by the British Herald but did not find any such recent covers.

Hence, we can conclude that an old image is being circulated with misleading claims.
