India Engages With WHO On Future COVID Mitigation Strategy

World Health Organization chief Tedros Adhanon Ghebreyesus on Monday met Indian diplomat Reenat Sandhu, Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, and held talks on India’s strong efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Tedros took to Twitter and wrote that India has drastically curbed transmission and offering vaccine doses to hundreds of millions of her fellow citizens.


Earlier on Monday, WHO congratulated India for accelerating COVID-19 vaccination.

“@WHO congratulates #India for accelerating #COVID19 vaccination,” tweeted the official Twitter handle of WHO South-East Asia.

Dr. Tedros referred to India as a vaccine powerhouse and said that WHO looks forward to intensified support from India to achieve global vaccine equity.



He also held a discussion with the Indian diplomat on a strong
collaboration between India and WHO on expanding knowledge and the use of traditional medicine.
“I look forward to joining the inauguration of the global traditional medicine center in
India”, he added.

On Monday, sources informed ANI that WHO approval for Bharat Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin, is expected this week.

Bharat Biotech has submitted its Phase 3 clinical trials data that demonstrated 77.8 per cent efficacy to the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO).
