A video of a young man being assaulted and murdered by a few people is doing rounds on social media with a claim that members of minority community were responsible for this incident which happened in Delhi.
“अगर अभी भी किसी को सेक्युलरिज्म का भूत चढ़ा है तो इसे ध्यान से देख लो।दिल्ली की घटना है । जहां शांतिदूतों की संख्या ज्यादा होती है। वहाँ हिन्दू ऐसे ही कटता है।” the video caption read.
(English Translation: If you still believe in secularism, then look at it carefully. This is the incident from Delhi, where there are more peacekeepers. There Hindus are cut like this)

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.
Upon carefully examining the video, we realized that it is made up of two different clips. We then proceeded to check both the clips separately.
We extracted keyframes from the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. The search led us to the same video which had been uploaded on YouTube on May 5, 2021. According to the description, the video is from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.
Based on this, we ran a keyword search and found a report dated May 7, 2021. The title of the report translates to, “Police filed case against eight for assaulting a lineman.”
A report by Amar Ujala mentioned that the man in the video is a lineman, identified as Anuj, a resident of village Sikanderpur. The report also mentioned that the incident happened when Anuj along with his colleagues Yogesh and Rehtu went to Sikri village to fix a fault, where one of the villagers asked him to change his house cables which Anuj refused to do without permission, which angered the residents.
While scanning through the posts and their comments, we also found a tweet by Muzaffarnagar Police. “A case has been registered against seven identified and 10-12 unidentified people in Bhopa police station under relevant sections. The accused will soon be arrested, other legal proceedings are being taken by the local police,” the police tweeted.
The same video was earlier debunked by NewsMobile when it was shared as violence in West Bengal. Check the fact check here.
Hence, it is clear that the video is from Uttar Pradesh and NOT Delhi. Also, in the news reports mentioned above, there was no mention of any communal angle as is being alluded to in the viral video.
We extracted keyframes of the video and ran them through Reverse Image search. An extensive search on Yandex, a Russian search engine, led us to an article from 2018 featuring the same image. As per the article, the video was from Venezuela.
The report mentioned that boy in the video was kidnapped by a drug cartel, following which he was tortured and then was brutally executed.
The same report was also published by Daily Mail on February 6, 2018.
This proves that old unrelated videos were edited together to create a false narrative.
