Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday released the National Institutional Ranking Framework, NIRF rankings 2021.
IIT Madras has been ranked number one in India in the ‘Overall’ and ‘Engineering’ categories in NIRF Rankings 2021, followed by IISc Bengaluru and IIT Bombay.

The NIRF India Ranking 2021 has been announced for eleven categories — Overall, University, Management, College, Pharmacy, Medical, Engineering, Architecture, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), Law and Research Institutions.
The top institutes and universities of India are judged on the basis of certain predetermined factors for the NIRF Rankings. These include — Teaching, Learning & Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, Peer Perception.
Management
IIM Ahmedabad ranked as the best B-School, followed by IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta.
Research Institutes
In the new research institutions category, the first rank has been obtained by IISc Bangalore, followed by IIT Madras and IIT Bombay at second and third ranks, respectively.
College
In the college’s category, Miranda House in Delhi bagged the first rank followed by Lady Sri Ram College for Women, Delhi and Loyola College, Chennai.
Medical
AIIMS Delhi has been ranked as the top institute in the medical institutes’ category.
Rank 1: AIIMS Delhi
Rank 2: PGIMER
Rank 3: CMC. Vellore
Rank 4: NIMHANS, Bangalore
NIRF rankings were launched in 2015 and the first ranks were announced in 2016. Since the first rankings, the number of categories has increased from four to 11.
