Fact Check: Old Video Of ‘Exorcism’ From Chhattisgarh Shared With False Claim

A video of a man assaulting a child is being shared on social media with a claim that he belongs to the minority community and teaches at DPS Rajbagh in Jammu and Kashmir. The post urges social media users to make the video viral so that the teacher can be punished and school shut down.

The video is being shared with the Hindi caption, “ये वीडियो सबको भेजिए ये वलसाड के DPS SCHOOL Rajbag का टीचर शकील अहमद अंसारी है इसको इतना शेयर करो की ये टीचर और स्कूल दोनों बंद हो जाए । वीडियो वायरल होने से काफी फ़र्क पड़ता है ओर कार्यवाही होती है जिसे दया न आये वो अपना मुंह (टाइपिंग) बंद रखे ।”

(Translation: Send this video to all. This is Shakeel Ahmed Ansari, the teacher of DPS SCHOOL Rajbag, Valsad. Share it so much that both the teacher and the school would be closed. Video going viral makes a lot of difference and action is taken, those who do not have mercy, keep their mouth shut.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

We ran a search using some relevant keywords and found that the same video was shared on Facebook in 2019 but linked to a different school.

Taking a cue from this, we ran another search and found several media reports from 2018, covering the same incident.

According to a report by Haribhoomi dated February 10, 2018, the incident took place in Santoshi Nagar in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.

According to a report by Dainik Bhaskar, the man was identified as Dinesh Sahu, a pastor who belonged to Chipli village, Kabirdham district and performed the ‘exorcism’. The report also mentioned that after the video went viral, Sahu was arrested and was charged under Section 151.

Moreover, we also looked for media reports to see if any such incident has been reported from Rajbagh but did not find any credible source to substantiate the claim.

Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that the viral video is old and is being shared with a false claim.
