A video showing some people in a Muharram procession assaulting and looting occupants of a car is doing rounds on social media. The caption attached to the video claims that the mob is attacking Hindus, thus giving the incident a communal colour.
The caption of the video read: ‘Bihar Sarkar ka Secular image: Saala vote jo na karwaye .

On putting some keywords through Google search, we found a report by ETV Bihar published on August 21, 2021, carrying a snapshot of the video. The headline of the report read, “VIDEO: मुस्लिम परिवार पर भीड़ की बेरहमी, महिला-बच्चों की ऐसी बची जान”. (Translation: Brutality of the mob on a Muslim family, watch how lives of women and children were saved)
The report mentioned that one of the victims, Masood Alam, asked the procession to make room for his car but everyone got furious and started hitting the vehicle with sticks.
According to another report, Masood’s relatives Amina Khatoon (50), Tabassum Khatoon (32), Farzana Khatoon (6) and Wasim (30) were injured in this incident.
Hindustan Times documented the developments in the case as well and revealed that police have lodged two FIRs, one filed by Kodha block development officer (BDO) and the other by the vehicle owner Md Wasim, who was also driving at the time of the attack.
Katihar superintendent of police (SP) Vikash Kumar said, “Around two dozen accused have been arrested and raids are being carried out to arrest the others.”
A video report by Bihar Tak published on August 21, included an interview of the victim, Masood Alam.
The above information proves that there was no communal angle in the above incident. Hence, the claim attached to the video is FAKE.
