The Rajya Sabha has unanimously passed the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty Seventh Amendment) Bill 2021, commonly called the OBC Bill.
The bill was passed by the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. It restores the power of states and union territories to prepare and maintain their own list of socially and educationally backward classes (SEBCs).
Meanwhile, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu got emotional as he spoke about yesterday’s ruckus by Opposition MPs in the House.

The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die minutes after it began on Wednesday. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla clarified that the Lower House functioned only for 21 hours and 14 minutes during the Monsoon Session which ended today.
The LS Speaker also mentioned that out of the 96 hours fixed for the sitting of the Lower House, it was not able to function for 74 hours and 46 minutes. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, slammed the Centre over the House being adjourned for an indefinite period before the scheduled day and said the government only wanted to paint the Opposition in a bad light.
Since the start of the monsoon session of parliament, the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha have witnessed constant disruptions, with face-offs between the government and the opposition. The two Houses have been witnessing protests from the Opposition since the start of the monsoon session on July 19.
