A screenshot of a news report has gone viral on social media in which it is being claimed that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has reduced the price of diesel in Delhi by Rs 8.36 per litre and now the price has come down to Rs 73.64 per litre in Delhi.
The post is shared on Facebook with a caption that translates to, “Diesel prices are decreasing in Delhi but diesel prices are increasing in UP.”

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be MISLEADING.
Starting with our investigation, we looked for recent media reports which might have stated that the price of diesel has been reduced by Rs. 8/- in Delhi but could not find any credible media report corroborating the viral claim.
We did a keyword search and found a news report dated July 30, 2020, that mentioned that the Delhi Chief Minister has stated that “the price of diesel will come down by Rs 8.36 per litre in the capital with the Delhi government rolling back its decision, taken in May, to hike taxes on the fuel.”
Searching further we found a video news report dated July 30, 2020, stating that “Delhi: Diesel Price Slashed By Rs 8.36 Per Litre: CM Arvind Kejriwal”.
At 2:24 seconds, one can see the clip from which the viral screenshot was taken.
Also, according to news articles, the present price of diesel in Delhi is Rs 94.39 per litre (as of August 2, 2021) and not Rs 73.64 per litre as is being claimed in the viral screenshot.
Thus, it becomes evident that a screenshot of a news report from 2020 is being shared as that of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal recently reducing the price of diesel by Rs 8.36 per litre in Delhi.
Therefore, the viral claim is misleading.
