A post is doing rounds on social media claiming that Mumbai’s Mayor Kishori Pednekar has passed away.
The post is being shared on Facebook reads, “Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar passes away at age of 58.”
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be false.
Starting with our investigation, we searched the web for news reports about Pednekar passing away but could not find any news coverage corroborating the viral claim, except for a report by India Today.
When we clicked the link, we found that the headline has been edited and an editor’s note was added in the story that read, “An earlier version of this report had said that Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar had passed away. The error is deeply regretted.”
Various articles stated that Pednekar was hospitalised on Sunday (July 18, 2021) at the Global Hospital after she complained of chest pain on Saturday night.
According to the mayor’s office, the chest pain was probably related to Covid recovery but her condition is now stable.
We also found a tweet on Pednekar’s official Twitter handle, dated July 18, 2021, in which she has refuted the claim about her demise.
“I am very much alive and taking treatment at the Global Hospital. Also FYI ate Dal Khichdi some time back,” reads the tweet.
