FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the video and found the claim to be misleading.
As the video started going viral on social media, an Indian journalist, Shiv Aroor, took to Twitter to clarify that the video is ‘NOT REAL’.
“Lots of people tweeting this clip today. *IT IS NOT REAL*. It’s from a popular combat simulator,” he replied to a user who had shared the same video.
We extracted the keyframes from the video and ran a Reverse Image Search on them along with some keywords. The search led us to the same video uploaded on YouTube by user ‘cptVLK‘, with the title, “MiG 29 landing on the dam 😉 DCS.”
In the comments, cptVLK has mentioned that the video is a simulation video. “Yes it’s DCS world simulator,” he said.
We ran a keyword search based on the comment and found that DCS or Digital Combat Simulator World ‘is a free-to-play digital battlefield game and simulation environment’.
The website of the game read: “Our dream is to offer the most authentic and realistic simulation of military aircraft, tanks, ground vehicles and ships possible. This free download includes a vast mission area of the Caucasus region and Black Sea that encompasses much of Georgia. It also includes a flyable Russian Sukhoi Su-25T ground attack aircraft and the famous WWII North American TF-51D fighter. An additional more than two dozen aircraft are available for purchase.”
