Fact Check: No, Central Govt Has NOT Released Any Order On Dearness Allowance Yet; Viral Post Is FAKE

Date:

As millions of central government employees and pensioners wait for Finance Ministry’s decision regarding the Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears, a Circular started going viral on social media claiming the resumption of DA from July 2021.

In April 2020, the Ministry of Finance announced that the additional instalment of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief to central government employees and pensioners that was due to be paid from January 1, 2020, will not be paid because of the economic slowdown due to COVID-19.

Multiple users shared the notice with the caption, “#BREAKING | Dearness allowances and Dearness relief frozen during #Covid_19 crises to be resumed from 01 July 2021: Union minstry of finance.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the notice is circulation is fake.

We ran a keyword search and checked the official social media handle of the Ministry of Finance for any such notice. In one of the tweets dated June 26, 2021, the ministry has clarified that the document in circulation is fake.

“A document is doing rounds on social media claiming resumption of DA to Central Government employees & Dearness Relief to Central Government pensioners from July 2021,” they tweeted.

Press Information Bureau, the government’s nodal agency, also clarified the same on their official Twitter handle.

A document is doing rounds on social media claiming that Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief for Central government employees and pensioners will be resumed from July 2021 #PIBFactCheck: This claim is #Fake. No such announcement has been made by the Government of India,” the tweet read.

This proves that the office memorandum in circulation is fake.

We then searched the web to find out the latest development about the status of the resumption of DA. According to multiple media reports, Central government in the Parliament had said that the pending DA and DR revisions will resume from July 1, 2021.

Many media outlets speculated that the final decision regarding the DA could be announced on June 26, 2021, after a meeting between the officials of the Union finance ministry, National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery and the department of personnel and training. However, no such announcement was made by any government official.

According to a report by Financial Express, dated June 27, “The Central Government is expected to decide on providing a dearness allowance hike to the Central Government Employees in July. However, no official decision has been announced on this yet.”

This proves that the viral post is fake as no official order has been released by the Central Government on the matter yet.
