As millions of central government employees and pensioners wait for Finance Ministry’s decision regarding the Dearness Allowance (DA) arrears, a Circular started going viral on social media claiming the resumption of DA from July 2021.
In April 2020, the Ministry of Finance announced that the additional instalment of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief to central government employees and pensioners that was due to be paid from January 1, 2020, will not be paid because of the economic slowdown due to COVID-19.
Multiple users shared the notice with the caption, “#BREAKING | Dearness allowances and Dearness relief frozen during #Covid_19 crises to be resumed from 01 July 2021: Union minstry of finance.”

We then searched the web to find out the latest development about the status of the resumption of DA. According to multiple media reports, Central government in the Parliament had said that the pending DA and DR revisions will resume from July 1, 2021.
Many media outlets speculated that the final decision regarding the DA could be announced on June 26, 2021, after a meeting between the officials of the Union finance ministry, National Council of Joint Consultative Machinery and the department of personnel and training. However, no such announcement was made by any government official.
According to a report by Financial Express, dated June 27, “The Central Government is expected to decide on providing a dearness allowance hike to the Central Government Employees in July. However, no official decision has been announced on this yet.”
This proves that the viral post is fake as no official order has been released by the Central Government on the matter yet.
