Fact Check: No, HM Amit Shah Has NOT Written Vaccination Drive Letter To UP CM Yogi Adityanath; It Is FAKE

A letter, allegedly written by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is being shared on social media.

In the purported letter, Amit Shah praised UP CM for efficiently managing the second wave of COVID-19 and vaccination drive. The letter also mentioned that the efforts are enough to win Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections scheduled to take place in 2022.

“Shri Yogi Adityanath,
I compliment you for your commendable efforts in handling the situation during the second wave of Covid-19. Now more efforts required to complete the registration of people (18 & above) for vaccination in Westem Uttar Pradesh by Mid of July 2021.
I am confident that your efforts would ensure smooth conduct of this process and will be completed in time. This vaccination registration process is a key to success in upcoming Uttar Pradesh Elections 2022. My best wishes for you and your team,” the letter read.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found it to be fake.

Firstly, we noticed that there were a few sentence construction errors in the letter and capital letters used where they could have been avoided. For eg. – usage of Capital “M” in the middle of the sentence for the word ‘Mid’.

We then scanned through the social media handles of Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath but did not find any such letters.

We also looked for credible media reports regarding any such letter but did not find any.

In a tweet dated June 7, 2021, the government’s nodal agency, PIB, also clarified that the viral letter is false.

A letter allegedly written by the Union Home Minister Amit Shah to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh is in circulation on social media. #PIBFactCheck This letter is #Fake. No such letter has been written by the Union Home Minister @AmitShah,” the tweet read. 

Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that the viral letter is fake and has been created to provide a wrong narrative to the people.
