Never mind movie theatres are mostly out of bounds due to the raging pandemic, a slew of new releases on OTT platforms is all set to keep you hooked this June.
Streaming platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hostar are gearing up to release some of the most awaited series’ and films, including Marvel Studio’s Loki based on Tom Hiddleston’s ‘God of Mischief’ which revolves around the protagonist stepping out of his brother’s shadow to embark on an adventure.
Also coming up this month is ‘Sweet Tooth’, another perilous adventure in a post-apocalyptic world of a boy who’s half-human and half-deer who searches for a new beginning with a gruff protector.
The most anticipated show that is all set to start streaming is ‘The Family Man 2’ which is already caught in a row for reportedly being anti-Tamil. Also on the anvil is the ‘Skater Girl’ where the story is set in a small village of Rajasthan. Besides this, an anthology based on Satayjt Ray’s short stories is also waiting to hit screens this month.

The Family Man
Manoj Bajpayee starrer ‘The Family Man’ Season 2 is the most-awaited series this season. It will be streaming on June 4. Bajpayee is back as Srikant Tiwari, juggling with his duties as a family man and of a spy for the service of his nation. He’ll be seen on screen with Samnatha Akkineni who stars as Raji, a suicide bomber. The series has been created by Filmmaker duo Raj and DK.
Vidya Balan starrer ‘Sherni’ is ready to roar and will premiere this month, while the exact date is yet to be announced. The film is directed by Amit Masurkar, Vidya Balan will be seen as an upright Forest Officer struggling to balance a world of human-animal conflict. The trailer was out on June 2.
Adapted by Jim Mickle from a comic book by Jeff Lemire, the eight-part Netflix Series ‘Sweet Tooth’ is a post-apocalyptic fairy tale and takes place a decade after “the Great Crumble,” in which a virus ravaged most of the human population and all babies started being born as human-animal hybrids.
The series is about a hybrid-deer-boy and wandering-loner who embarks a new extraordinary journey searching for a new beginning. It is set to start streaming on Friday, June4.
‘Skater Girl’ is India’s first movie on skateboarding and is directed by Manjari Makijany. The film is staged in a small village of Rajshtan. The story is about a teenage girl who is bound to tradition and duties towards her family but is interested in skating.
She fights all odds and crosses every stone lying between her and her dreams and finally competes in a national skating championship.
‘Awake’ sums up global hysteria after a mysterious catastrophe strikes and takes away humans’ ability to sleep. A former army soldier goes around to find a solution with her daughter. The film is directed by Mark Raso starring Gina Rodriguez and Ariana Greenbaly and will stream on June 9.
‘Ray’ – a four part series that streams from June 18 – is directed by filmmakers Vasan Bala, Abhishek Chaubey and Srijit Mukherjee and iis based on Satyajit Ray’s short stories. Actors Manoj Bajpayee, Gajraj Rao, Ali Fazal, Shweta Basu Prasad, Anindita Bose, Kay Kay Menon, Bidita Bag, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Harshvarrdhan Kapoor, Radhika Madan, Chandan Roy Sanyal and Akansha Ranjan Kapoor star in the series. The four stories are titled Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa, Forget Me Not, Behrupiya, and Spotlight. The series will explore vulnerabilities and shades of each character.

‘Loki’, which starts streaming every Wednesday from June 9, is about an alternative timeline which is created after Loki vanishes with Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. Loki features the God of Mischief and steps out of his brother’s shadow. Tom Hiddleston is joined by actors Owen Wilson, Gugu Mnbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martijo and Wunmi Maosakui.
