BJP Stings TMC MP Nusrat Jahan, Asks If She Lied In Parliament

Date:

A day after TMC MP Nusrat Jahan claimed that her marriage with businessman Nikhil Jain was not legal, BJP leader Amit Malviya on Thursday questioned her, saying did she lie about her marriage to Nikhil Jain on the floor of the Parliament.

“TMC MP Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain’s personal life, who she is married to or who she is living in with, should not be anyone’s concern. But she is an elected representative and is on record in the Parliament that she is married to Nikhil Jain. Did she lie on the floor of the House?” Amit Malviya tweeted along with a video showing the TMC MP taking oath as ‘Nusrat Jahan Ruhi Jain’.

On Wednesday, Jahan broke her silence regarding her separation from Nikhil Jain. The TMC MP released a statement, revealing that her marriage with Nikhil was according to Turkish law and was not valid in India.

“Being on foreign land, as per Turkish Marriage Regulation, ceremony is invalid. It was interfaith marriage, it requires validation under Special Marriage Act, which didn’t happen. As per Court of Law, it’s not marriage but relationship/live-in, she said in the statement.

“Thus the question of divorce does not arise. Our separation happened long back, but I did not speak about it as I intended to keep my private life to myself,” she added.

Nusrat Jahan had tied the knot with Nikhil Jain at a destination wedding ceremony in Turkey in 2019. She has alleged that her belongings, like jewellery and other assets, have been “illegally held back”.

On his part, Nikhil Jain revealed that he had filed for an annulment in Kolkata, India Today reported. He refused to comment further on the matter as the case is sub judice in court. He admitted that the two have been separated since November 2020.
