Fact Check: Videos Of Medical Staff Using Empty Syringes For Vaccination Are Not From India

Date:

Few videos showing health care workers administering vaccine using empty syringes are being shared with a claim that they are from India.

The caption of the video in Hindi reads: टीका लगाते समय मुँह ना घुमायें, यह देख ले कि दवाई अंदर गयी है या नहीं…नर्सिंग स्टाफ केवल सूई चुभा कर निकाल लेते है इस कठिन समय में भ्रष्टाचार की हद हो गयी …दोनों वीडियो में देखें

(Translation: Do not turn your face while vaccinating. Check whether the vaccine has been injected or not…nursing staff only prick the needle but do not inject the vaccine. Corruption has reached its limit in this difficult time. Watch in both videos)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post and found it to be misleading.

Video 1

We put keyframes of the video through Reverse Image Search and found that the same video was published on Facebook by a Brazilian media organisation – CBN Goiâniaon February 10, 2021.

The description of the video in Portuguese can be loosely translated to, ‘The incident took place on February 9 in Goiania, Brazil, where an elderly woman’s daughter was recording her mother receiving the vaccine and noticed that the nurse injected an empty syringe in her arm‘.

It further stated that, when she confronted about the vaccine not being injected, the nurse apologized and said it was a mistake.

Additionally, we found another report by a Brazilian media organisation, Mais Goias dated February 13, 2021. The headline of the report read, “Nurse admits that she inserted a needle, but she did not vaccinate an elderly woman in Goiânia”

As per the report, that the Municipal Health Department took cognizance of the matter and removed the nurse from her post.

This proves that the above video is NOT from India.

Video 2

We started our investigation by putting the keyframes of the second video through Reverse Image Search and found that a user had published the video on Facebook on March 28, 2021.

This suggested that the video is not from India because drive-in vaccination started in India started months after the video started circulating on the internet.

Further, we found a report by an Argentine media organisation, Minuto Uno published on April 5, 2021, featuring a snapshot of the video. The headline of the report can be translated to, “Brazil: They deceive the population by pretending to inject Covid-19 vaccines“.

As per the report, the cases of health care workers giving “shots of air” while vaccinating the elderly are on a rise. In all the videos it can be seen that they are taking advantage of the fact that people close their eyes or turn their gaze when they prick their arm, therefore they place a cotton ball on the site without applying the dose.

Earlier, NewsMobile had debunked a similar post that claimed that a nurse injected an empty syringe in the arm of a person in India. The link to the article can be found here.

Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the post claiming that the videos are from India are false and misleading.
