Fact Check: Is COVID-19 A Bacteria & Causes Death By Coagulation Of Blood? Here’s The Truth Of The Viral Claim Attributed To Singapore

Date:

Amidst rising coronavirus cases, a post is being shared on different social media sites with a claim that Singapore has become the first country in the world to perform an autopsy on COVID-19 victims and has found that the infection is caused by a bacteria that has been exposed to radiation and causes death by coagulation in blood.

The text of the post reads, “*MUST READ – IMPORTANT* SHARE THIS EVERYWHERE .. Singapore has become the first country in the world to perform an autopsy (post-mortem) for a Covid-19 corpse. After a thorough investigation, it was discovered that Covid-19 does not exist as a virus, but rather a bacterium that has been exposed to radiation and causes human death by coagulation in the blood. Covid-19 disease has been found to cause blood clotting, which causes blood clotting in humans and causes blood clotting in the veins, which makes it difficult for a person to breathe because the brain, heart and lungs cannot receive oxygen, causing people to die quickly…READ MORE

We found that similar posts were in circulation last year too wherein it was claimed that an autopsy in COVID-19 victims has been done in Italy and Germany and Russia.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile did a fact check and found that all the claims in the post are FAKE.

Claim 1: Singapore did an autopsy on Covid-19 victim

On running a Google search using relevant keywords, we found a Facebook post by Singapore Health Ministry dated June 7, 2021.

Refuting the viral claim, the ministry stated that ‘Singapore has not performed any such autopsy. The message states false information concerning the pathophysiology of COVID-19 infection, which is not borne out by current evidence’.

Claim 2: Covid-19 is not a virus, but a bacteria

Coming to the second claim, we found that World Health Organisation (WHO) on its website has clarified that the virus that causes COVID-19 is from a family of viruses called Coronaviridae. It has stated that it is NOT a bacteria.

Claim 3: Singapore went against WHO protocol to perform an autopsy

WHO has no protocol that states that autopsy should not be performed on COVID-19 victims. Various countries have done autopsies on victims who succumbed to the disease. India did the autopsy on a COVID-19 body in October 2020.

Claim 4: Coronavirus can be cured with antibiotics and aspirin

We found another post by WHO that explained that COVID-19 cannot be cured with antibiotics. It explained that since Coronavirus is a virus, antibiotics cannot be used as a means of prevention or treatment.

Government of India’s nodal information agency – Press Information Bureau (PIB) – also debunked the claim and said that COVID-19 is a virus and cannot be treated with aspirin.

Claim 5: COVID-19 causes blood clotting which leads to death

While there have been cases of blood clotting, it is not the only or major cause of death in COVID-19 patients. As per a study published in The Lancet, Respiratory failure is the main cause behind the fatalities which was also the case in previous viral pandemics, such as the Spanish flu of 1918.

Another study published in The Lancet stated that the people who had comorbidities like hypertension, diabetes or heart disease were more likely to succumb to the disease.

Claim 6: Doctors did not use ventilators to treat COVID-19 patients after the discovery

We found a report that stated that a group of innovative Singapore clinicians has developed a portable, low-cost ventilator, SG-Inspire (Singapore invasive/non-invasive support for effective respiration), that can be used for pandemics. The ventilators are being used to treat COVID-19 patients with severe illness.

Earlier, NewsMobile debunked a similar claim, where a similar message was shared in the name of Italy and Russia.

Hence, based on the above information, it can be stated that the various claims made in the post are Fake.
