A post has gone viral on social media advising people who are in need of 2DG drug to reach out to Dr Reddy’s Lab via these two emails: Dr Deepak Sapra (firstname.lastname@example.org) and Dr Mallikarjun Rao (email@example.com).
2DG drug is an anti-covid drug developed by DRDO and was recently launched by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan. In the name of Dr Reddy’s Lab, the post is also asking for many personal details.

We found out that in a reply to a Twitter user’s query regarding the authenticity of the same message, Dr Reddy’s has categorically stated that the piece of information is incorrect.
Further, the tweet shared some important information regarding the drug which is as follows:
- Emergency use approval has been granted in India for anti-COVID-19 therapeutic application of the drug 2-deoxy-D-glucose (2DG) developed by INMAS, a lab of the DRDO, in collaboration with Dr Reddy’s Laboratories.
- 2DG is an oral antiviral drug that can be administered only upon prescription to hospitalised moderate to severe COVID-19 patients as adjunct (add on) therapy along with the existing standard of care.
- 2DG has not yet been launched into the market. The price per sachet has not yet been announced.
- Commercial launch and supply of 2DG to major Government and private hospitals is expected to commence in mid-June 2021. Price is being determined with a view to making it accessible and affordable to as many patients as possible and will be announced soon.
The tweet also advised people to beware of agents selling spurious or illegal products in the name of 2DG.
Hence, from the above information, it is clear that the contact details of Dr Reddy’s regarding the procurement of 2DG Drug shared in the viral post are FAKE.
