Amid the rising cases of mucormycosis, also known as black fungus, four white fungus infection reported in Bihar, according to reports.
White fungus is more dangerous than black fungus infection because it affects the lungs as well as other parts of the body including nails, skin, stomach, kidney, brain, private parts and mouth, health experts say.
Doctors said that white fungus also infect the lungs and an infection similar to COVID-19 is detected when HRCT is performed on the infected patient.
Similar to the black fungus in which factors such as severe diabetes and suppression of the immune system increases the risk to people catching the infection, white fungus pose danger to patients that have low immunity. This comes amid the Centre asking states to notify black fungus or mucormycosis an epidemic.
