Date:

Amid the escalating tension between Israel and Palestine, a video is being widely shared on social media. The video shows people lying on the ground, wrapped in shrouds. After some time, some of the ‘dead bodies’ can be seen moving.

The video is being shared with the caption: Palestinian martyr scratches his nose.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

While looking for a similar post on Facebook, we found that the same video was shared by multiple users in 2018, with a similar claim. The links can be seen here and here.

This gave us the hint that the video is old.
Based on this, we ran a Reverse Image Search on the video and found out that the same video was uploaded by a YouTube channel in October 2013.

“A new loud scandal and a failed rendition of bodies inside Al-Azhar University,” a rough translation of the video title read.

The video description called it a ‘failed acting performance of the bodies inside Al-Azhar University’.

We found the same video on the YouTube channel of El Badil, an Egyptian news outlet. As per the video title, it shows Egyptian students protesting by pretending to be dead.

A representative presentation of the bodies inside Al-Azhar University,” it said.

The video description read (rough translation), “Dozens of Muslim Brotherhood students at Al-Azhar University organized a mass demonstration in front of the college administration building…”

We found more videos of the protests on El Badil’s YouTube Channel.

We also found several media reports from 2013 on the same. According to the report, the students were protesting against what they call a “military coup” that toppled Islamist president Mohamed Morsi. The reports can be seen here and here.

Hence, from the above information, it is clear that it is an old video from Egypt and the viral claim is false.
