Fact Check: No, BMC Did NOT Issue These ‘Lockdown Guidelines’ For Mumbai Shops

A post is being shared on social media with a claim that Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued new lockdown guidelines for the city of Mumbai.

“Maharashtra Mumbai New Total Lockdown Guidelines applicable from 1st May 2021,” the Facebook post read.

The notice lists out the time and days for different shops to open such as a ‘Shoe and garment shop can open on Monday and Thursday from 9 am to 3 pm’.

The Facebook posts can be seen here, here and here.

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be false.

We looked for media reports to corroborate the viral claim but did not find any recent news reports about any such notice.

We also found a tweet by BMC dated April 30, where they have refuted the viral post.
“This image, making rounds on social media, is FAKE. BMC has issued NO such guidelines. All lockdown guidelines issued by state govt will remain in effect. We request citizens to NOT believe in rumours & urge them to NOT forward such FAKE information,” they tweeted.

We also found a tweet by news agency ANI dated April 29, 2021, stating that Maharashtra government has extended the already imposed COVID-19 restrictions till May 15.

Hence from the above fact check, it is clear that the viral post is fake.
