Fact Check: Did Saudi Arabia Ship Liquid Oxygen To India On Rahul Gandhi’s Request? Here Is The truth

Date:

A picture has surfaced on social media platforms claiming that due to the efforts of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Saudi Arabia shipped the much-needed 80 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen to India to help combat the COVID-19 crisis.

A Facebook user shared the image with the caption in Hindi that roughly translates as follows, “You are great, Rahul Gandhi Ji, you requested 80 metric tonnes of oxygen from Saudi Arabia, but you did not allow even your name to come forward, Hail Congress leader. We are proud of you.”

The same claim is viral on Facebook and Twitter.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked this post and found the claims made in the post to be false.

Firstly, we did not find any credible media report stating that Saudi Arabia has shipped 80 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen to India at the request of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Also, Neither Rahul Gandhi nor any other INC leader has put out this claim on social media.

According to media reports, the supply shipment is being undertaken in cooperation with the Adani Group and Linde Plc — one of the largest industrial gas companies in the world.

Taking to Twitter, the Indian mission in Riyadh wrote, “Embassy of India is proud to partner with Adani group and M/s Linde in shipping much needed 80MT liquid oxygen to India. Our heartfelt  thanks to the Ministry of Health Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for all their help, support and cooperation.”

Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani thanked Indian Embassy in Riyadh and tweeted, “Thank you @IndianEmbRiyadh. Indeed, actions speak louder than words. We are on an urgent mission to secure oxygen supplies from across the world. This first shipment of 4 ISO cryogenic tanks with 80 tons of liquid oxygen is now on its way from Dammam to Mundra.”

Moreover, the image of Rahul Gandhi and UAE’s PM Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is from January 2019, when both leaders met in Dubai and discussed the relationship between both the countries.

Hence, the information mentioned above led us to the conclusion that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi does not have any relation to Saudi Arabia’s move to ship 80 MT of liquid oxygen to India.
