Fact Check: Video Of Long Queue Of Dead Bodies At A Delhi Crematorium Shared As That Of Bhopal

A video showing a long queue of dead bodies waiting outside a crematorium for last rites is being shared on social media with a claim that it is from Bhopal.

A social media user shared the video with the caption, “भोपाल के समशान घाट पर लाशो की लम्बी लाइन देखिये

(Translation- Long line of dead bodies at crematorium in Bhopal)

The post links can be seen here, here and here.

NewsMobile fact-checked the claim and found it to be misleading.

We started our investigation by going through the comments and found that few some users commented that the video is not from Bhopal but of a crematorium in Subhash Nagar in Delhi.

With that information, we ran a Google search and found the same video published by ETV Bharat Delhi on April 26, 2021. The title of the video in Hindi can be translated to ‘Waiting for cremation in Delhi, queues of dead bodies outside the crematorium‘.

The text in the video reads, “दिल्ली के सुभाष नगर शमशान घाट का है ये विडियो” (Translation: This video is from Subhash Nagar crematorium in Delhi)

We found another post by Swaraj Express in which the video can be seen. The caption of the video reads, “नहीं थम रही कोरोना से मरने वालों की रफ़्तार, दिल्ली के सुभाष नगर शमशान घाट पर लगी शवों की कतार” (Translation: The number of those who are dying from Coronavirus is increasing, the queue of dead bodies at the Subhash Nagar crematorium in Delhi)

Further, we found a video on the Subhash Nagar crematorium by Zee Hindustan dated April 23, 2021. The video shows a ground report from Subhash Nagar cremation ground. It mentions that the ground is closing its booking for last rites as the number of bodies coming in is much more than what the crematorium could handle.

When we compared the visuals of the Zee Hindustan’s video to the visuals of the viral post, it became clear that the video was taken at Delhi’s Subhash Nagar cremation ground.

Hence, from the above fact check, it is clear that the video shows a cremation ground in Delhi, not Bhopal, and the post therefore is misleading.
