More Than 80 Lakh People Registered In First Three Hours On CoWIN App: Centre

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday in a press release said that the CoWin portal received an overwhelming response as It witnessed more than 80 lakh people registering themselves on the portal, with 3 hours from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm mostly of age group between 18 to 44 years.

The statement said, ” Some of the media reports today suggested that the Co-WIN platform was unresponsive/overshooting the server capacity and was not able to respond to the unprecedented number of registrations taking place. It is clarified that the media reports that the server has crashed are incorrect and are without any basis. The server supporting the Co-Win digital portal continues to work smoothly at its highest efficiency. People are registering on the platform, mostly of age-group 18-44. It witnessed more than 80 lakh people registered themselves on the portal, with 3 hours from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.”

From today 18 years or above, were permitted to register themself for vaccination on India’s COVID-19 platform CoWin. Registration was also being done through the Aarogya Setu App.

Initially difficulties were faced by people regarding self registration, which were restored later, central government clarified. Both CoWIN and Aarogya Setu App are back online and are allowing those to register for the jab who are eligible.

According to new vaccine rules as spelt out by Centre, states and private entities have been allowed to buy vaccines directly from the manufacturers for inoculations.

The Centre on its part will continue with its ongoing vaccination drive targeting frontline workers, health workers, senior citizens and those above 45 years of age.

Apart from Pune-based Serum Institute of India’s Covishield and Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech’s indigenously produced Covaxin, Russia’s Sputnik V will also soon be available in India.

Incidentally, Serum Institute issued a statement on Wednesday and said that Covishield  would be sold at ₹ 400 to states and at ₹ 600 to private hospitals. The prices for Centre however will remain the same at ₹ 150.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and Bharat Biotech issued a statement and said that Covaxin shows 78% overall interim efficacy and 100% efficacy against severe COVID-19 infection.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR VACCINATION ONLINE?

  • Log on to the CoWIN website, click on Register/Sign in Yourself
  • Enter your mobile number, click on Get OTP.
  • Once you get the OTP on your phone, enter the digits at the designated space and click Verify.
  • Once you are on the Register for Vaccination page, enter all relevant details, including government-approved photo ID proof, name, gender, and year of birth. Click on Register.
  • Once registered, there will be an option to schedule an appointment.
  • Click on Schedule next to the name of the person registered for vaccination.
  • Enter your Pin Code and Search. The nearby centres will come up on screen and you need to select the date and time of your choice and click on Confirm.
  • Four members can be added through one login.
