Global Support Pours In for India’s Fight Against COVID-19

Global support continues to pour in as India is reeling under the second wave of COVID-19. The country reported a record high of over 3.6 lakh cases with 3,293 people dying in the last 24 hours.

Here’s how the world is helping India in its fight against the coronavirus.

United States

The United States is sending a “whole series” of help to India and has an intention to send COVID-19 vaccines to the country, said US President Joe Biden.

Biden also noted that India helped the United States when the latter was in a “bind” at the very beginning of the pandemic. “I spoke at length with PM Modi, we are sending immediately a whole series of help that it (India) needs including providing Remdesivir and other drugs that can deal with disease and help recovery,” Biden said.

Singapore

Canada

Bhutan

Bhutan will supply liquid oxygen to India from a new plant being set up at the Montana Industrial Estate run by Cryogenics Gases Pvt. Ltd in Samdrup Jongkhar district, Bhutan.

According to the press release Embassy of India, Bhutan, every day, forty metric tonnes of liquid oxygen produced by the oxygen plant will be exported to Assam using cryogenic tankers.

WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) will provide 4,000 oxygen concentrators to India which is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases and related deaths, a spokesperson of the global health body said on Tuesday.

“WHO is providing critical equipment and supplies to meet the increased needs during the current surge. 4000 oxygen concentrators will be delivered, to be provided to affected states (in India),” the organistion’s spokesperson said while speaking to Sputnik.

EU

A shipment of urgently needed oxygen, medicine and equipment will be delivered over the coming days by the EU Member States to India, following the country’s request for support through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, which is coordinated by the Emergency Response Coordination Centre of the European Commission, the bloc said on Tuesday.
