FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim and found it to be misleading.
A Reverse Image Search led us to a tweet, dated July 2020, by Congress leader from Chattisgarh, PL Punia.
We also found one of the screengrabs of the video in a news article by TOI. The article dated July 20, 2020, had the headline, “UP: 6-year-old seen pushing grandfather’s stretcher in Deoria hospital, ward boy suspended.”
As per the report, a ward boy from the Deoria district hospital in Uttar Pradesh was removed for allegedly demanding Rs 30 for pushing stretchers for patients.
Other reports also mentioned that Deoria District Magistrate Amit Kishore had visited the hospital to meet the family members of Chedi Yadav, the patient in the viral video. A probe set up under Sadar SDM and the assistant chief medical officer of the hospital found the ward boy as the ‘culprit.’
We also noted that the report stated that Chedi Yadav was injured and nothing about Coronavirus was mentioned in the article.
From this, we conclude that an old video from July 2020 showing a child and his mother pushing the stretcher of their injured grandfather is being falsely shared as a recent one amid the COVID-19 crisis in the country.
