You must have heard of Covid-19, but have you heard of Long COVID? Long COVID has many names such as post-Covid, post-acute COVID, long-tail COVID and long-haul COVID.
So what exactly is this condition? Long Covid is a condition where people continue to experience COVID-19 symptoms for longer than usual after testing positive.
The World Health Organization (WHO) explains that some people may experience long-term effects of COVID-19, whether they required hospitalization or not.
A survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) suggests that it may take weeks for COVID-19 symptoms to resolve and for people to return to their usual state of health. This is also true for young adults with no chronic medical conditions. Long COVID symptoms are as follow:
shortness of breath
cough
joint pain
chest pain
brain fog
depression
muscle pain
headache
fever, which may come and go
A Canadian residing in Ontario was fired from his job after struggling with long COVID-19 symptoms.
Rob Kingston was called into a meeting in October last year and told by his employer that his services were no longer required.
Kingston is demanding his job back and $50,000 in compensation. Kingston’s case highlights the problem of dealing with employees with Long COVID-19. Employees might return to work when they are not ready to do so.
There is also the opposite issue of employees not being able to return to work for some time, and not knowing when they are likely to feel well again
