FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the claim and found that it was misleading.
We extracted keyframes of the video and put them through Reverse Image Search. We found a similar video, uploaded on YouTube on May 7, 2020.
In this report by News Nation, the same video can be seen at 2.17 minutes. The description of the video reads, “A gas leak has occurred at the chemical plant in Visakhapatnam. More than a thousand people are being told ill. Relief rescue work is in progress.”
We found another YouTube video hosted by another news outlet that carried the same video dated May 7, 2020.
According to a news report by The Hindu, 12 people died in the accident and many were admitted to the hospital. People coming in contact with the gas started having breathing problems and other problems due to which they had fallen on the road.
From this, we can conclude that the viral video is not related to the raging COVID-19 pandemic in India but was taken after the Visakhapatnam gas tragedy that took place last year. Thus, the post is misleading.
